External Quality Assurer (EQA)

ICM Competency Based Qualifications (CBQs) provide an introduction to occupational competence in the workplace allowing Learners to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding which they can then put into practice within employment. ICM CBQs are flexible in terms of delivery and assessment and are suitable for use in a range of settings including the workplace https://www.icm.education/competency-based-qualifications.

To apply to be an ICM External Quality Assurer industry experience and academic qualifications one level above the qualification assessing is essential, experience in quality assurance of educational assessment is desirable.

Quality assurance

  • Ensure assessment practice confirms validity, authenticity, reliability, currency and sufficiency
  • Support ICM Approved Centres with implementation of the ICM quality assurance model as set out in the ICM Quality Assurance Guide to Competency Based Qualifications
  • Sample ICM Approved Centres’ assessment, grading and monitoring procedures as required to ensure that the decisions are in accordance with ICM’s requirements
  • Carry out external quality assurance visits (remote or face to face) with ICM Approved Centres as agreed
  • Meet with staff and Learners to discuss aspects of the qualification, including induction, assessment process, resources, qualification structure and the student support/mentoring process
  • Complete and submit the External Quality Assurer Report to ICM and the ICM Approved Centres within the required timescale
  • Provide advice and support to ICM Approved Centres regarding any issues/queries
  • Provide positive feedback, identify areas of best practice and encourage ICM Approved Centres to develop their practice

Supporting the EQA process

  • Maintain CPD activities and suitable qualifications and/or occupational competence to enable the credible fulfilment of an external quality assurance role on behalf of ICM
  • Participate in best practice and ICM’s standardisation activities to ensure support for continued improvement and consistent performance
  • Support the training and development of new and existing Centres in line with ICM policies and procedures
  • Organise and deliver bespoke training events as and when required and produce fit for purpose activities for the events
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of ICM’s products, services and IT systems to enable excellent customer service
  • If required by ICM, to act as a Lead EQA in a particular sector or more widely with responsibility for:
    • Managing the work of a group of EQAs including quality assuring their work through accompanied visits and reviews of reports
    • Training new EQAs including assessing their competence against national standards
    • Supporting and advising EQAs on both sector specific matters and general quality assurance principles
